The FlameSpec™ UV-IR-F-HD flame detector provides ultra-fast response, high performance, and reliable detection of a large variety of hydrocarbon fires (visible and non-visible).
The detector addresses slow-growing fires as well as fast eruptions of fire using improved UV-IR technology operating in all weather and light conditions. The detector provides a high-definition (HD) color video output of the monitored area with clear imaging of fire events and personnel at distances up to 100 ft (30 m) allowing responders to know the exact situation before entering the hazardous area.
Video and data of events are quickly stored to non-volatile memory. The recordings start one minute before detection and continue for up to four minutes; the event video can be used for post-incident investigation.
High immunity to false alarms.
Hydrocarbon flame detection, using IR spectrum in the 4.0 - 5.0μm range.
High sensitivity – up to 100 ft (30 m) for a 1 ft2 (0.1 m2) n-heptane fire.
Ultra-fast detection within 5 milliseconds for fireballs or explosions.
High speed (<0.5 seconds) model [X5] available for compliance with NFPA 33.
HD or composite video output with automatic recording of fire events.
Data/Event logger: Alarms, faults, and video, as well as other relevant events are logged to non-volatile memory.
Universal outputs, 3- and 4- wire, 4—20 mA sink/source, Fire, Auxiliary and Fault relays. RS485 port using Modbus RTU.
Built-In-Test (BIT) – Automatic and manual self-test of window cleanliness and overall detector operation.
Additional dirty optics warning for preventive maintenance needs.
HART® 7 option available for configuration and maintenance.
Window heater to avoid condensation and icing.
Stainless steel tilt mount with horizontal and vertical adjustment.
Functional safety - SIL 2 capable (option available).
Detect high UV (sparks and arcs) or IR levels via auxiliary relay and 4—20 mA.

From lithium battery lines to electrostatic spray booths, speed is the ultimate safety metric. NFPA 33 (Section 9.9.1) requires a detection reaction time of 0.5 seconds or less—a benchmark that many standard detectors fail to meet.
The FlameSpec™ X5 range is purpose-built for these high-speed applications. With FM-verified performance, the X5 series provides the rapid response necessary to trigger automatic shutdowns, protecting both your personnel and your high-value production assets..
High-speed fire detection without false alarm is critical to maintain safety and operational efficiency.
Detection within the spray booth should activate system shutdown and shut off ventilation within 0.5seconds for NFPA 72 and NFPA 33 compliance.
The FlameSpec ™ X5 hispeed detector has been designed and independently tested by FM to confirm detection speeds down to 0.3 seconds for IPA and other alcohols used in painting and coating applications.
Different areas of automotive facilities require tailored detection strategies:
High speed of response, sub 0.5 seconds.
High speed of response to lithium-ion batteries and plastic fires.
Use of Hydrogen changes the risk and must be indendantly assessed. Hydrogen burns with an invisible flame and can be an explosive risk.
The FlameSpec™ Range is rigorously tested and certified to meet global safety, performance, and reliability standards.
Its comprehensive range of certifications ensures compliance with international regulations for hazardous environments, making it a trusted solution for high-stakes applications. From explosion-proof approvals to functional safety, and ingress protection, these certifications validate the detector's ability to perform under the most demanding industrial conditions.
ATEX / IECEx Zone 1 and 2 certified, cFMu Class 1 Div 1
FM3260 and EN54-10, performance approval
Tested according to NFPA 33 requirements, <0.5 seconds response time
