FlameSpec™ IR3-C02L The FlameSpecTM IR3-CO2L-HD flame detector has been optimized to provide fast, robust detection for a wide range of heavy hydrocarbon fires, where combustion exhaust gases may be present.
The detector also provides a high-definition (HD) color video output of the monitored area with clear imaging of events and personnel up to 100 ft (30 m), allowing responders to know the exact situation before entering the hazardous area. Video and data of events are stored saved quickly to non-volatile memory for post-incident investigation. The recordings start one minute before detection and continue for up to four minutes.
Typical applications include: Aircraft hangars & hardened aircraft shelters, Helipads, (Onshore, Offshore, Hospitals), Areas with high vehicle activity e.g., Waste recycling facilities or Road / Rail tanker loading racks.
Highest immunity to false alarms.
Hydrocarbon flame detection. Three wavelengths, in the infrared spectral range of 4.0—5.0 μm, with clear separation.
Each sensor has the same field of view to further improve false alarm immunity.
HD, or composite, video output with automatic HD video recording of events.
Ultra-fast detection within 40 milliseconds for fireballs or explosions.
Detects up to 262 ft (80 m) for a 1 ft2 (0.1 m2) n-heptane fire.
5 selectable sensitivity levels.
Data/Event logger: Alarms, faults & videos are logged to non-volatile memory.
Universal outputs, 3- & 4- wire, 4—20 mA sink / source, Fire, Auxiliary & Fault relays.
RS485 port using Modbus RTU.
Built-in-Test (BIT) – Automatic and manual self-test of window cleanliness and overall detector operation.
HART® 7, as standard - Easy configuration and diagnostic capability, including dirty optics warning for preventive maintenance needs.
Window heater to avoid condensation and icing.
Stainless steel tilt mount with horizontal and vertical adjustment.
Functional safety - SIL 2 capable.

Maintenance and refueling zones are complex environments where safety cannot be compromised. We address the unique challenges of the hangar:
The Risk: Low-frequency but high-consequence fire events fueled by hydrocarbons.
The Interference: Constant "noise" from diesel vehicles, engine exhaust, and maintenance work (welding/sanding).
The Solution: Advanced spectral analysis that distinguishes between a fire and a false alarm, protecting your airframes from both fire and accidental foam damage.
Different areas of aircraft facilities require tailored detection strategies:
Utilize IR3-CO2L flame detector with integrated video camera for high-speed detection and maximum false alarm rejection. The Hangars require large area coverage that can be matched to suppression zones. With five sensitivity settings and the unique FlameView accessory, the FlameSpec™ range of detectors can be set to provide large-area coverage that meets the requirements for suppression.
Depending on the operation different fuel types may be used where the detection ranges can vary. It is critical that flame detectors are selected based on their ability to provide coverage regardless of fuel or risk. Third-party testing according to FM 3260 confirms FGD detectors' ability not only to detect but gives the fire size and detection range in feet and meters.
Operational areas where exhaust from jet engines is a regular false alarm risk. FGD® FlameSpec™ CO2L detectors have been rigorously tested in real environments for their ability to operate continuously even when exposed to military aircraft jets entering, shutting down, and starting up in Hardened Aircraft Shelters (HAS).
The FlameSpec™ range is rigorously tested and certified to meet global safety, performance, and reliability standards.
Its comprehensive range of certifications ensures compliance with international regulations for hazardous environments, making it a trusted solution for high-stakes applications. From explosion-proof approvals to functional safety and ingress protection, these certifications validate the detector's ability to perform under the most demanding industrial conditions.
